Lack of Job Opportunities In Pakistan
Pakistan is experiencing a severe unemployment crisis, with the number of unemployed individuals projected to reach 5.9 million by 2025. Driven by a massive youth bulge where 60% of the population is under 30 and slow economic growth, the job market cannot accommodate the growing workforce. Key factors of unemployment include low industrial growth, a significant mismatch between academic curriculum and industry skill, and high rates of brain drain as skilled professionals leave the country.
The unemployed population surged by 31%, growing from 4.5 million in 2020–21 to 5.9 million by 2025. The national unemployment rate was approximately 7.5% in early 2025. Youth aged 15–24 face a 12.6% unemployment rate. Furthermore, over 31% of young people aged 15–29 are not in education, employment, or training.
Balochistan faces an alarming situation, with some reports suggesting extremely high youth unemployment rates as low as 2,000 out of 25,000 graduates in 2021 securing jobs. Overall, unemployment can be ended in the country by providing skill-based education, supporting entrepreneurship, industrial modernization, and foreign investment.
