Impact of Climate Change
Climate change is a serious global problem. The Earth’s average temperature has already risen by about 1.1°C since the late 1800s. This rise is mainly caused by harmful gases from burning coal, oil, and gas.
The effects are clear. In 2022, severe floods in Pakistan affected over 33 million people and caused billions of dollars in damage. Heat waves are becoming more common, with temperatures in some areas crossing 50°C. Glaciers in the north are melting faster, increasing the risk of floods and future water shortages. Around the world, sea levels have risen by about 20 centimeters since 1900, threatening coastal areas.
Climate change also affects food and health. Crop production drops during extreme heat and drought. The World Health Organization warns that climate change may cause about 250,000 additional deaths per year between 2030 and 2050 due to heat, malaria, and malnutrition.
This issue requires serious action. Governments must reduce pollution, and people can help by saving energy, planting trees, and reducing waste. Climate change is not a future threat; it is happening now, and its impact is growing each year.
