As we all know, Karachi, once celebrated as the "City of Lights," is now plagued by a lack of effective regulations, leading to a surge in street crimes. Crime has become a daily occurrence, with no area in Karachi considered safe. Reports indicate that between 2022 and March 28, 2024, over 250 residents were shot dead and 1,052 were wounded by street criminals. This alarming situation sees mobile phones, cash, and handbags being openly snatched.
The root cause of these crimes is drug addiction, which drives individuals to seek easy money through illegal means, often at the expense of human lives. With millions of drug users in Pakistan, much of the illegal drug supply originates from Afghanistan.
For Pakistan to progress, it is crucial to address both the influx of drugs from Afghanistan and the rising levels of street crime.
