So you got into college and are about to take your exams. Are you excited? Will you be nervous at the exam center and not sure how to do best? Let’s talk!
First, I want to say that everyone goes through a similar routine of preparing for their classes or assessments. But as important as it is, there are some things you can do in advance to ease yourself into the process, which we will discuss below.
Preparing early will save you time and money when you get set to go through an assessment. Even if you don’t have any previous experience with standardized tests, practicing helps improve your score. A lot of practice can help you feel more prepared for them, especially the test they require you to give in order to graduate. One study method in particular is actually quite common among students and has been used by many colleges and universities all over the country. It involves doing several different types of activities such as reading books and notes, completing various math problems, playing games, memorizing the material, and more. There are also video games and other physical activities such as puzzles and riddles that help you practice in class and perform well on the test. The more you do these activities, the better you become at your next test. If you want to get a chance for extra credit or an expedited application, you might want to consider taking this approach when applying to schools. However, do so only when you know exactly what your major requires, since those are usually determined during admissions.
You could also try to work out and do some exercises to prepare for your classes in college. Take advantage of tutoring services if you are willing to pay. Tutors can help you get ready for any type of test or assignment, including those requiring essay or essay-writing skills. Another helpful option is to visit a counseling service that specializes in helping adult learners. Their programs include career guidance and individualized attention. This is useful if you need someone to focus on specific topics. Finally, just because there are free resources available to you doesn't mean that you should ignore them. Look around your school library and ask fellow high schoolers who have already taken their exams whether there is anything that they would recommend to them that will make their experience easier. Remember to keep track of every exam you have taken so you know how much time went by between tests. Don't forget to do something fun, too! Taking part in campus events, like sports, theater performances, concerts, etc., does a whole lot for the body and mind, giving you even more motivation to get ready for your upcoming test.
