Once upon a time, there was a cap seller who used to go to other towns to sell caps. One day he was going to a town. There happened to be a forest on his way. He decided to have a short nap under a shady tree as he felt tired. He placed his bundle of caps beside him. As he lay down, he fell asleep. There lived monkeys in that forest. The monkeys were mischievous creatures. They came down when they saw the cap seller sleeping. They started picking the caps from the bundle. The monkeys wore the caps and started playing, jumping here and there. When the cap seller woke up, he found all the caps missing.
The bundle was lying empty. Seeing this, he became worried as to where the caps had gone. He started looking for his caps. Suddenly, he caught sight of the monkeys, wearing the caps and sitting on the branches of the tree. He tried to get back the caps from the monkeys but all in vain. He sat down and began working out a plan on how to get his caps back. An idea struck his mind that monkeys are great imitators. Therefore, he took off the cap he was wearing and threw it on the ground. Seeing this, the monkeys also started throwing the caps on the ground. The cap seller collected the caps and went his way.
