Once, Santiago was going to sell sheep's wool. On his way, beside a church, he slept with his sheep. He had a dream where he found gold and money. Suddenly, he woke up and became happy, then he started to move on. An old woman approached him and said, 'I know you're seeking treasure.' Santiago became hopeful, and she continued, 'You'll find it in Egypt.' Santiago replied, 'I already know that I can find it in Egypt.' He became sad, declined her suggestion, sold all the sheep, and set off.

He arrived in a place where people were speaking Arabic, and the women were covered in clothing. Santiago entered a restaurant, and a boy standing there heard his story. While Santiago was observing the restaurant, the boy reached into Santiago's pocket, took all his money, and ran away. Santiago then found work in a shop.

After cleaning the shop, customers started coming, and after 11 months, he earned a considerable amount of money. He was now ready to go to the Egyptian pyramids. He met a boy named the Englishman on the bus, and they began their journey. However, the way was blocked, so Santiago and the Englishman got off the bus and started searching for the man known as the Alchemist. While searching, Santiago saw Fatima and hugged her. She said, 'I know where the Alchemist lives.'

Santiago eventually reached the Egyptian pyramids, started digging, and found gold and money. He then married Fatima.
