Future of Philosophy

Today, many people are very concerned about the future of philosophy and believe that it is being underrated, possibly leading to its demise someday. However, before drawing any conclusions about the future of philosophy, let's examine its past. The literal meaning of philosophy is "love of wisdom." The word "philosophy" is derived from "Philosophia," a combination of two Greek words, "Philo" and "Sophia" (Sophia being the goddess of wisdom or knowledge), which means love and wisdom, respectively. The initial definition of philosophy was "the study of everything" (as mentioned in "Sophie's World" by Jostein Gaarder). A philosopher was someone who loved wisdom.

Understanding what philosophy actually means, I don't believe it is being underrated or that it will eventually die. I find it hard to imagine that the love for wisdom and knowledge will cease to exist among humans. Furthermore, for those who view philosophy as the study of reality, knowledge, nature, or morality, I recommend reading "Homo Deus" by Yuval Noah Harari. In one of the chapters, Harrari clearly explains the need for philosophy in the future. According to him, philosophy will play a vital role in determining the decisions that robots should make in various situations.
