The International Workers Day is celebrated every year on 1st May. Labor Day has its origins in the labor union movement, especially eight hours for work and other remaining hours for rest, etc. Meanwhile, the workers enjoy better benefits in other parts of the world this day, but labor in Pakistan still faces exploitation and lots of problems.
Ultimately, the number of children being used as labor in Pakistan is increasing day by day due to a lack of checks and balances on the small and medium industries.
However, in some backward areas' children are forced and compelled to work due to certain circumstances, as they work at facilities, hotels, petrol stations, etc to push their days.
According to the Global Slavery Index, there were over 3m people bonded laborers in Pakistan in 2018. Children continue to be employed in these sectors, helping their parents meet ends, instead of attending school.
There is also an acute shortage of labor inspectors who may take care of and help them at workplaces. Now it is high time the government should give the workers their due rights which will increase productivity and be beneficial for the country's economy.
