It is said that if a nation
is to be made a slave, snatch its education or deprecate the education system
of that nation, unfortunately, this is what has been observed since the
inception of our education system, the issues in our education system are deeply
rooted, as per my calculations our education system ranks the lowest in the
level of seriousness for education in the world. As henry Peter Brougham said
Education makes people easy to lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern,
but impossible to enslave.
People of other nations are
well aware that educating the youth is equal to investing in the future of the
nation. Therefore they try to maximize this investment and they keep on
improving their education system with the passage of time. Tactlessly, such
situations do not occur in Sindh, education is not given social or state-level
importance here. In comparison to Pakistan, other countries are a powerhouse in
the education system, such facts lead to a bunch of questions why Sindh
education is lacking behind, where is the flaw, and is it our social issue? Why
people do not understand that education actually is an investment in the future
of the nation? Hopefully, our rulers understand this point and start taking
appropriate measures related to it. To me, our education needs reformation that
can change the entire map of education in Sindh, in upcoming years our
population in the country will raise up to 30 crores, and by the time the total population of the province Sindh
is expected to reach 55.02 million, if we do not move in the right
direction then what will be the condition one can visualize, for meeting the
core purpose of education I think our teachers must know how to teach well. Our
teacher education system must be improved because to me teacher education is an
indispensable and precarious part of every educational system and hence plays
an essential role in improving quality and enhancing the educational system.
because the teacher is said as a change agent in society, so the teachers need
not only to be able to keep order and provide useful information to students but
also to be increasingly effective in enabling a diverse group of students in
this connection if a teacher remains unaware, how the transformation of
education will take place? The current teacher education system needs to be
reformed, numerous issues are existing in teacher education and these issues
are related to administration such as training programs 1st of
all the time duration is very little and unproductive for our pre-service and
in-service teachers.
This is not
that era where teachers were expected to prepare only a slight minority, now
teachers are expected to prepare virtually all students for higher-order
thinking and performance skills. I do not think our teacher education system is
capable enough to create such inspiring teachers, in our teacher education
system is lacking funding and resources, and we still have poorly equipped
training institutions. This is one of the critical components, we do not have
coherence and integration among courses and between course work and we also
have a dearth of clinical work in educational institutes.
As Linda Darling-Hammond
said that there shall be a clinical practice for teachers with their pieces of
training, this practice will boast teachers teaching and learning skills she
compares the medical and engineering fields with theory there is a practice in
clinics hospitals, and engineering labs.
In our teacher training
programs, we see an imbalance between general and professional courses, and
emphasis is given to theory, there is a lack of research and evaluation of
teacher training programs, and most importantly we have short training
duration, especially in case of in-service training, even the new recruitment
of teachers in Sindh despite of towering claims and plans may face the problems
which shall critically be analyzed. Like we lack uniformity in our education
system so different talented people passed the tests whose aptitude may not be
of teacher, many of them are engineers and doctors, do we think they will teach
well? What kind of teacher education curriculum is designed for new
teachers?
Teacher education is a
crucial component of the education system and it plays a pivotal role in the
quality improvement and strengthening of the education system because teaching
is a challenging task for its quality performance teacher education is very
essential we lack teacher education opportunities. Although there are plenty of
training institutes owing to poor administration and the courses are outdated
and traditional which do not enhance the skills, motivation, and quality of
21st-century teachers, because of such issues the quality of teachers in Sindh
is deplorable and it will get grimmer if the inspiring teachers will not be
available in the schools.
I think there shall be no
political interference, the regular political intervention creates gaps in the
system which has led to corruption and other evils.
It has been observed from
educators that the bills related to education remain pending for a long time,
this gives a sense that policies should be strong and implemented without any
delay and resources, the policy shall not be changed by anyone easily because
the poor policy implementation will lead to the creation of gaps and trust
deficit on the part of the public.
Research culture shall be
promoted within teacher education institutions. For this purpose, the pace of
research-oriented programs in teaching and learning should be accelerated
especially from school to higher levels.
